I cannot believe it is already December! Fall has flown by. Thank you for all of your donations for the All School Thanksgiving Meal. The students really enjoyed making the cranberry-apple sauce. I am sure it is a day they won't forget!
In math this month we are focusing on division. Students will see four different strategies for dividing with one digit divisors (repeated subtraction, partial quotients, distributive property, and regrouping). They will get to choose which one they like the best! Some words your child should be using at home to discuss division are dividend, divisor, quotient, and remainder.
We are finishing writing our first narrative this week. You should see a copy coming home called Sense of Autumn. The students were describing an autumn day using their five senses.
Our next reading story is an informational text called Letters Home from Yosemite. Student will be learning about national parks, especially Yosemite. They will be focusing on finding main idea and supporting details when reading. Students will also be practicing letter writing!
During our content time, we are focusing on social studies. Students have already begun to learn the states and capitals of the Northeast region. We will continue this unit by learning about the land, water, climate, natural resources, products, and culture of the region.
Some upcoming dates: (all dates subject to change!)
Spelling Test: December 12th
Yosemite Reading Test: December 14th
Northeast Region Test: December 17th
Division Test: December 19th
